These two examples use a large gourd shard laced inside a ring. We will have other examples in class with other configurations. Before class, think about what you want as the focal point on your shield, possible embellishments, will you burn, carve or etch and the possibilities are endless! If you don't want to go with a southwest design, you can create whatever theme you prefer for an exciting wall hanging.

Mosaic with Wood, Glass or Tiles
Using small slices of twig in a variety of sizes, you will create a mosaic in whatever shape you choose. In this picture I created a "River Runs Through It" with shades of blue and green banked by shades of brown and gold and used small black stones to fill the voids. The slices can be left natural, dyed or painted. I have an assortment of small grit materials for you to choose from to compliment your wood twig slices.
You will be carving in this class to create the area where you will inlay the wood and grit materials. If you have a dremel and favorite burs, please bring them along. Dremels will also be available in class for sharing as well as burners and air carving tools for etching and detail work.
If you love working puzzles, this class will delight you! I found it fun and relaxing to create the placement for each twig slice.
The examples on the left were made with mixed colors of fused glass created in small sheets you will be able to break apart to assemble as you wish. The glass can be put together in a tight design as they were in these two pieces or with spaces left between the random glass patterns. The voids can be filled with sand or glass frit or left open with a painted background. You can combine the glass with the wood slices and other materials to make a multitextured mosaic!
